Privacy Policy

I, Christopher Mielack, built Puzzle Pelago as commercial entertainment software.

I take privacy very seriously. For that reason, Puzzle Pelago ...

  • ... does not collect any personally identifiable data
  • ... does not collect any device identifying data that could be used to track activity across other services or applications.

For the aim of quality assurance and the improvement of every player's experience, Puzzle Pelago does collect some anonymized data that can not be traced back to any one individual or any one device.

The first type of data collected is anonymous error reports. Whenever the game encounters an error or crashes, information about the cause of the error is collected and sent to a server. This information is collected automatically and serves to enable me as the developer to fix problems players may have with the game, and to increase the quality of the software over time. Together with error reports, some information about the build model and version of operating system of the device used are transmitted as well, so as to be able to discern whether the problem is specific to a certain type of device. The reporting system does not transmit any indentifyable and/or hardware specific ids. Instead, upon every installation of the game, a random id is assigned to the player's installation. This id is transmitted with the reports in order to be able to tell whether a bug or problem may occur that is specific to one device or many. This random id is changed every time the game is uninstalled and re-installed.

The second type of data collected is anonymous progress events after each level solved. This data is useful to me as a developer and level designer because I want to know whether there are puzzles that cause players to disproportionately often give up, since this could be an indication that the game is either too difficult or not difficult enough in places. Progress data too is connected to the aforementioned id that is randomized upon each game installation and not personally identifiable.

Anonymized data that is potentially collected ...

  • ... will not be passed on, much less be sold, to third parties
  • ... will not be made publicly available except in aggregated form (i.e. statistics)
  • ... is in no form traceable to the specific person playing
  • ... will not be used for any other purpose than to directly enhance the quality of the game software, i.e. Puzzle Pelago.

I may update the Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page, and will be explicitly and clearly highlighted as changes.

The privacy policy is valid since the release of version 0.9.4, May 8th 2019.

If you have any questions or suggestions about my Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to contact me at this email address.

Changes made for 0.9.4: since up to and including version 0.9.3, no data was collected in any form, this document was updated for version 0.9.4. Since the information transmitted is fully anonymised and in no form personally identifyable, I decided to remove a part that stated that the game will ask for explicit consent. The wording has also been updated to reflect the fact that not only game progress information but also automatic error reports are collected.
